In the field, students are supervised by a professional geologist and/or a research lecturer from Uni La Salle. Dissertations are prepared in teams of two or three and set out to address a specific applied problem using the appropriate analytic methods (such as sampling in the field, petrographic and mineralogical characterization, geotechnical and geophysical tests).
Work is spread over 14 weeks, including the field work required to gather data, lab time to analyze the data, writing and defense of the dissertation.
Successful completion of this internship is a prerequisite for award of the 3-year technology degree in Geology.
Optional internships You can complete optional internships at the end of years 1 and 2, in addition to the compulsory course work.
Following completion of this internship, students write and defend their final year dissertation.
If you chose the work-study option, you will continue in the same company for a five-month placement.Learn the techniques specific to geosciences and train in a profession where you will work directly in the field, focusing on the environment and natural resources.At the end of your course, you can opt either for a work-study placement or a research specialization..It must take place in a company, preferably one focusing on lab techniques, production or exploitation.3rd year final internship (5 to 6 months) At the end of your 3rd year, this internship will provide the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to carry out technical assignments independently (such as soil characterization, mechanical testing, geophysical studies and boring tests).Course work is based on 17 weeks of practical work in field schools (mapping, petrography and application of trade tools) and an internship.The 3rd and final year of the program is concentrated on the main industries that require geological technicians.The aim of these workshops is to provide you with the practical experience in the field to sharpen your observational skills and deepen your understanding of geology.Semi-autonomous field schools allow you to apply your theoretical and practical knowledge to a real-life case study, in France or abroad.Geological technicians work in the lab or the field across a broad range of projects, including civil engineering projects, exploration and exploitation of natural resources (hydrocarbons, mines and quarries) and industrial site clean-up.The sustainability of deposits, preventing natural and industrial risks and interactions with the environment are some of the critically important challenges you will work on as a geological technician.
