Course Description: In this course, students develop effective composition skills and research techniques.
We’ll spend class time on prewriting, drafting, revision and editing strategies for each essay.
Homework will include weekly reading and writing assignments.
Demonstrate writing proficiency with a range of rhetorical approaches to include narration, exposition, argument, and critical analysis and recognize the stylistic and structural strategies in the writing of others.4.
Focus written work around an explicit central thesis, a position statement or proposition advanced by the writer that is arguable and supportable and develop the thesis systematically, using specific details and supporting evidence.5.Specific services are available to English language learners.Use of the above resources will likely result in a higher score on that assignment.During this course, we’ll consider the components of good writing and examine how student and professional writers exemplify these traits.Feedback from the instructor on each of your drafts is the most personalized aspect of the course.CCV offers drop-in tutoring at the Evelyn Hoffman Donovan Learning & Career Center just down the hall.E-tutoring is available online; turn-around time is usually 24-48 hours, except during midterms and finals weeks.Your attention to feedback will, to a large extent, determine your success in this course.Class sessions will take the form of a writer’s workshop and will include writing exercises, discussion, peer and teacher conferencing, and short presentations by the instructor.No assignment will be accepted more than five days late, with increasing deductions for each day.
